We had our first big road trip as a family of 5 (including Bailey) for the 4th of July weekend! We packed up Abbie, Carter and Bailey Thursday night and headed down to Houston. My hope in leaving at night was that Abbie and Carter would sleep most of the drive. That is what we have been doing with Abbie for the past year and a half. Well I guess she has changed a lot since our last trip down at Thanksgiving! She stayed awake until 11:30 at night and only fell asleep the last 30 minutes of the drive! She talked THE ENTIRE WAY! I thought I was going to lose my mind! Thankfully, Carter slept most of the way. We pulled up to Mimi and Bebe’s house around midnight and put both kids in bed. What a drive!
We spent most of the weekend playing at Mimi’s house, going to the pool and eating yummy food. Steve, Abbie and I went swimming both Friday and Saturday morning while Carter took his morning nap with Mimi. Abbie had a great time at the pool! She loved her new swim ring, and it was so nice not having to hold her the whole time in the pool. She practiced her swimming and watched the other kids in the pool.
Mimi grilled hamburgers for the 4th, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner with Mimi, Bebe and Great Grandma and Grandpa Carter. Abbie had fun playing with Bebe and sidewalk chalk after dinner.
After our drive down, we decided to go ahead and leave after lunch today if Abbie was going to be up the whole drive anyway. Sure enough, she stayed awake the entire drive again. She was very good, though, and kept herself entertained with snacks, drawing and Dora the last hour or so. Carter took a long nap in the car and then was very happy. Overall, a successful drive! We had a wonderful holiday weekend visiting everyone and look forward to our next trip down!
