This morning, Abbie and I went on a big adventure to visit the Museum of Nature and Science, including the Children’s Museum, with playgroup. Fortunately, Stephen was able to work at home and stay with Carter, who took a 2+ hour morning nap while we were gone!
We met Wendy and Griffin, Rachel and Emily, and Leah, Travis and baby brother, Brett, at the museum at 10:00. Our first stop was the Children’s Museum. We had not been since our visit with playgroup last summer. I guess you could say this was our annual trip! Abbie loved it even more this time, being a year older and wiser. However, it does not come close to the Houston Children’s Museum, which I can’t wait to take Abbie back to soon.
Abbie ran around all the different themed rooms, including the House, Backyard, Fire Station, Farm and water table. She had to check everything out first, and then went back to each room for some more in-depth playing!
Abbie loved the fire truck she could “drive” and slide down.
She came back to the Fire Station several times. She played in it with Griffin and Travis. She even put on a hat and drove the truck! She also had fun ringing the bell. Pushing buttons is one of her favorite things these days!
We caught up with Griffin in the House area. That boy loves to cook! He is happiest when he is playing with pots and pans. I think he will be a chef one day! In this picture, Abbie was bringing Wendy and I some milk and something she had made.
She also found a baby doll on a changing table to play with. Abbie still loves to play with dolls.
Next we went to the Backyard area that had fish and turtles. She went right up to the fish but was a little more hesitant about seeing the turtles up close.
We went to the Farm area where she found a tricycle to ride. Abbie is very into riding bikes these days, although she doesn’t actually pedal, but instead just moves her feet to go forward.
Then Abbie planted seeds and collected fruits and vegetables.
We wandered around and found a sand table to play in. Abbie enjoyed playing with the sand. She also explored some things with Travis.
Finally we went to play at the water table with Emily. Abbie loves playing in water. Fortunately, they had smocks to wear to help keep them dry. Unfortunately, her shoes and socks were soaked. Thank goodness I had remembered to bring an extra pair of socks! She had fun playing with the ducks and boats and just splashing in general.
We then all went upstairs to eat lunch. Abbie always loves to eat with her friends!
After lunch, we walked through the “big” museum. All of the kids loved exploring, and we basically had the museum to ourselves.
We found a “hands-on” area that had fun things to look at. The kids had a great time.
We came across a big table of soapy water to make bubbles. Abbie had fun making the bubbles. For some reason, she thought it was necessary to pop the bubbles with her face! She kept doing it over and over.
Abbie and Griffin had so much fun together, as usual! They held hands for a long time. It was the sweetest thing! Griffin eventually found a leaf to carry which meant he couldn’t hold Abbie’s hand at the same time. I think she was sad he didn’t want to hold hands with her anymore! She even talked about holding hands with Griffin and the leaf days later!
We all had a wonderful time at the museum! Abbie is still talking about the fun she had with her friends. We can’t wait until the next visit!
And check out our trip to the museum last year here!
